1. State whether each class is remote (R), online (V), or hybrid (H) 2. If your class is online please let me know if it is the first 8 weeks or second 8 weeks of the semester. If your courses are remote or hybrid please let me know the days and times in which you are meeting next semester. 3. Please let me know how many courses you have scheduled for the winter 2021 semester.
*This will help me to confirm that you know your schedule for next semester and that there are not any concerns!
Bookstore Information for winter 2021 Semester This is the recent information I have received regarding the bookstore process for winter 2021: Please read the following information carefully as there is a new process for textbooks for Early College of Macomb students for the Winter 2021 semester. Due to new technology, ECM students DO NOT need to order textbooks. ECM student schedules will be pulled (see details below) by the bookstore and book orders will be prepared based on the students’ schedules. Here are the details: ECM students register for classes on November 2. We STRONGLY encourage any add/drops to be completed prior to November 18. Starting November 18, the Bookstore will begin pulling ECM student schedules and preparing book orders. All book orders will be prepared and ready for pickup at the new temporary SOUTH CAMPUS Bookstore location ONLY – the Sports & Expo Center (P Building). With COVID-19 protocols in place, both stores will have occupancy limitations. There will also be socially distant queuing lines designated in the buildings for students waiting to enter the bookstore. As a result, students may experience a longer wait time. We STRONGLY encourage ECM students to return their Fall 2020 semester books and pick up their Winter 2021 semester books at the SAME TIME. Fall 2020 textbook rentals are due no later than December 14th. Rental return and book buy back will be handled in a designated area at the Bookstore. If a student makes a change to his/her Winter 2021 schedule or a class is cancelled on or after November 18, students still need to pick up their original book order from the South Campus Expo Center. Students should NOT try to contact the bookstore to make changes. Changes must be handled in person at the same time or after students have picked up their original book order. Students will be able to go the bookstore to exchange books using their new schedule. Once the original book order is picked up from South Campus, exchanging books can be done at BOTH South and Center campus bookstores. Other helpful info: Map of South Campus - https://www.macomb.edu/resources/maps-directions/attachments/South-Campus.pdf South Campus Bookstore is located in P building Bookstore info on Macomb’s website - https://www.macomb.edu/future-students/student-resources/bookstores.html Note there is a LOT of info on this page. Links to bookstore hours are located toward the bottom of the page. If students have questions or problems after they pick up their initial order – they can email [email protected] or 586-445-7390, option 3 for South and option 4 for Center.
Further questions and answers regarding bookstore for the winter 2021 semester: 1. What date can the books be picked up? Students generally plan to return to buybacks and get new books starting December 10th, is this too soon? Or will students be emailed when orders are filled? If, so and that date is after December 14th (rental due date) students will be expected to go up to the south campus twice, which could be problematic for our northern district students. So basically needing some direction to clarify these specific questions that arose when explaining the new procedures. Jimmy plans to start pulling the orders by November 18th and should be ready for pick-up by December 7th (or sooner!). The students will not have to come back twice, as they will be able to bring their books back for buy-back and pick their new orders at the same time. 2. Will e-books be sent via email or access codes placed in pickup bags? If emailed, is the bookstore getting email addresses from students My Macomb account? Last term students entered the email address during the order process. Depends on the type: 1.) Digital downloads will be added to the cash register receipts, where the students will see the URL number. 2) The access codes will be added to the pick-up orders. 3. I already had a student order books (eager student) now what? I had her forward the order and sent it to Tracy and cc’d you so that someone can look into that Tracy/Jimmy will cancel these orders and students should not expect to receive anything from them. Jimmy will re-order these books, pull them with everything else in the order and place in pick-up bag.
October 19th and 20th, 2020 1. Attendance 2. Questions/comments/concerns - applications and FAFSA 3. Count day information 4. 2. This gives more normalcy to the course and you are guaranteed not to miss anything! -Difficulty of online learning - what skills are you using to help you stay focused and organized? Unless work is necessary I would step back or reduce hours so you can focus primarily on your schooling. -DO NOT GIVE UP - PERSEVERE! Persevere definition: continue in a course of action even the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success

**Email received relating to potential ECM laptop issues: To Our ECM Friends,
We have been working with some of the Early College students to identify and resolve the issues they have been having with their laptops. We have also swapped several of the student laptops for fresh ones.
We have identified some settings that we can change in our image that may prevent some of the unusual problems from happening in the future. We will be applying these to our backup laptops so that, if a student needs to exchange their laptop, these changes will be on the fresh one.
Another thing we have identified is that, if a student changes the display settings to HD, that takes up a significant added amount of bandwidth - which could definitely cause Wi-Fi problems. Our default setting is Standard. So one thing a student could check if they are having Wi-Fi problems, is that they have not changed this to HD.
An additional item we have noticed is that Macomb CC seems to be having network issues. We are not trying to deflect our responsibility, but, if this is the case, some of the students' problems may be going away as the Macomb issues are addressed.
We have not heard of any new complaints over the last week or so. Please let me know if there are still major problems that the students are having with the laptops. We will continue to work with you and the students to keep their laptops working properly.
Thank you for keeping us informed.

BOOKSTORE UPDATE: I just received information that the bookstore does not have updated information for all students. This means that some of your orders for your books are most likely ready for pickup but since they do not have your updated information the email is not getting to you. I would highly suggest if you are waiting for a confirmation for your books to be ready for pickup to call the bookstore. Most likely your order is ready! Another option is to email me stating that you have not received confirmation that your order is ready and I will forward to Tracy at the bookstore and get some answers for you! If you ordered delivery I do know that they are behind. I would also call the bookstore to check the status of your book.
ALL books need to be ordered by this week for your courses unless you have a September or October course and they have not provided you the book information yet.

Update on ECM Administrative Assistant: Dear ECM Students and Parents,
Hope all is well with you and your family! We wanted to inform you of a recent change in the Early College of Macomb Staff. As of Monday, August 10th, our new ECM Administrative Assistant is Mrs. Deb Fortuna ([email protected], 586.228.3546), who has been an employee of the MISD for many years and, most recently, was the Administrative Support for Dr. Alesia Flye, MISD Chief Academic Officer. While we welcome Mrs. Fortuna to the ECM Staff, we wish a Happy Retirement to Mrs. Peggy Allman and thank her for her wonderful dedication and excellent years of service to the ECM! As you know from your communications with her, Mrs. Allman always was a consummate professional and, as our one and only ECM Administrative Assistant, was very instrumental in the ECM's development and its successful operation for the past ten years.
While we bid a fond farewell to Mrs. Allman, we enthusiastically welcome Mrs. Fortuna to the ECM family, as we know she also will provide the ECM program with an exceptional level of competence, energy and professionalism. Thank you very much, take care and good luck to you during the Fall 2020 term!
Sincerely,
The ECM Staff
Canvas Update: I received the information below regarding your concerns if you are not seeing an active course in your Canvas and your course begins the week of August 17th. If your course begins the WEEK OF August 17th and you know your professors last name you can view the link below and find their email. You can then send them a PROFESSIONAL email stating your concerns why there has not been any information posted yet about the course. If your course is a 12 week course or begins in October (8 week course) then the course may not be available yet on Canvas. Any questions do not hesitate to email me or send me a Remind message!
Until the instructor launches the course (Week 0), your student may not be able to see anything in Canvas. While we were told this would be done by August 10, it seems not every faculty member has done this. For now, just tell your students to keep checking back each day and reach out by email to the faculty member. If I get any updates, I’ll pass those along to you."
Virtual College Day - August 8th, 2020 Dear Student, College day is fast approaching! Saturday August 8, 2020 will be here in a blink of an eye. To ensure a successful experience for everyone you need to follow the instructions below and remember a few facts!
Facts: 1. College Day is Mandatory! 2. You may have already picked "a school" but please be open minded and visit other schools. 3. You MUST complete the assignment (another copy below) and "SAVE" it before you attempt to send it back to me (otherwise it comes over blank). I suggest you take notes and then fill out the document after the event ends. This assignment counts a grade for seminar fall grades. I highly suggest taking notes before in case it does not save when you fill it in. I will have to see some type of proof. If you want to complete with hand written notes you can send me a copy of your notes using the app "Genius Scan". 4. Having someone else log-in for you is "PROHIBITED" 5. You MUST log-in with video "ON" and you name displayed (this goes for ALL ECM Zoom sessions for seminar). We must see your name on your zoom account (this is how you will be approved for your attendance) and your video must be on so we visually see you! 6. You must create a Zoom account and use it! DO NOT just enter a meeting using a link, please log-in to your zoom account and enter the meeting information 7. The zoom PDF below has blue hyperlinks to help you get started with zoom 8. I will also send another reminder to everyone next Friday August 7, 2020 9. There will be a document sent prior with all of the zoom codes for each college.
